Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva has stated that she does not consider herself the favorite ahead of the upcoming WTA 1000 final in Madrid. The 19-year-old, who reached her first career final at this level, will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk on May 2.

“I don’t see myself as the favorite for this match, because I know that whoever reaches the final will be a strong opponent. I’ve learned not to let my opponent’s ranking or name affect me. I’ll just go out on court and give my best,” Andreeva said, as quoted by Ubitennis.
Andreeva, ranked eighth in the world and the top Russian in the rankings, has five WTA singles titles to her name. Her opponent, Kostyuk, is ranked 23rd. The two have met once before, with Kostyuk winning their quarterfinal clash in Brisbane earlier this year.
The Madrid tournament, part of the WTA 1000 category, boasts a prize fund of €8.23 million. Only Grand Slam events and the WTA Finals carry more prestige.
