The Tour de France has unveiled the routes for the first three stages of the 2027 edition, with the race kicking off in the United Kingdom and traversing three of its nations: Scotland, England, and Wales.
The 2027 Tour de France will begin on Friday, July 2, with a 184-kilometer stage from Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, which will host the Grand Départ, to Carlisle. The largely flat route offers few notable climbs, setting the stage for a sprinter to claim the first victory and the inaugural yellow jersey of this edition.
The second stage, scheduled for Saturday, July 3, will be a long 223-kilometer leg from Keswick to Liverpool. Featuring up to five categorized climbs, the course could encourage breakaways, though a mass sprint finish is anticipated in the iconic city of The Beatles.
The Tour’s visit to the UK will conclude on Sunday, July 4, with a demanding 223-kilometer stage from Welshpool to Cardiff, the capital of Wales. Resembling an Ardennes classic, the route includes eight climbs, most concentrated in the second half, offering opportunities for favorites to launch long-range attacks.
The 2027 Tour de France Femmes also confirmed its Grand Départ from the UK, though its British stages will be limited to England. The women’s race will start on Friday, July 30, 2027, in Leeds, with the first stage finishing in Manchester. This symbolic route comes 13 years after the men’s race started in Leeds in 2014. Specific stage profiles have not yet been revealed.
