The Argentine superstar scored a goal and provided two assists, overtaking Sebastian Giovinco’s previous record to become the fastest player in league history to reach 100 goal contributions. Messi accomplished this feat in just 64 matches, a staggering 31 appearances fewer than Giovinco needed.
The 38-year-old was in scintillating form at BMO Field, guiding his team to a comfortable victory. Rodrigo De Paul broke the deadlock in the 44th minute, after which Messi set up Luis Suarez and Sergio Reguilon to make it 3-0. The veteran forward then got on the scoresheet himself, finishing clinically after a neat exchange with De Paul. Toronto’s Emilio Aristizábal came off the bench to net a brilliant brace, but Miami held on for a well-deserved win.
The result marked a strong bounce-back for the Herons, who had suffered a disappointing 4-3 home defeat to Orlando City the previous weekend. With this victory, Inter Miami climbed to third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Messi, who will turn 39 in June, continues to defy age. This season, he has scored 10 goals and contributed three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. His overall tally for Inter Miami now stands at 87 goals in 101 matches.
