Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson has been fined $5,000 for an illegal stick infraction during the fourth game of the second-round Stanley Cup series against the Minnesota Wild, which Colorado won 5-2 (leading the series 3-1).
In the first period, Wild forward Michael McCarron delivered a body check on Manson along the boards. As Manson fell, he pulled McCarron down with him, and both players ended up on the ice. While on the ice, Manson struck McCarron in the face with the top end of his stick shaft.
The on-ice officials assessed Manson a double minor penalty. McCarron, who has 515 penalty minutes in 381 career NHL regular-season games, attempted to skate toward the Avalanche bench but was restrained by a linesman.
The $5,000 fine is the maximum allowed under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement. The money will be donated to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
